The Social Justice Commission promotes parish participation involving social and economic issues for the poor and supports a sustainable environment. Areas of concentration are:

• AA meets every Wednesday morning at 10:00 am in the Parish Center Rooms 1& 2.

• Volunteers research and provide information at Christmas time on programs available for alternative giving in place of un-needed material goods.

• Our Parish Community, through participation in the various programs offered by Catholic Charties, partners for building the "Reign of God" here on earth. Some programs offered by Catholic Charities are: Hope in a Box, St Patricks Day Box Lunch sale, Genesee County Lenten Appeal. • Volunteers provide our community an opportuny to spread the joy of Christmas to the disadvantaged in an organized gift gathering and delivery project.

• Food is available for those in immediate need of assistance in our area. Contact the Parish office or any Social Justince Commission member. Depending on local need, we may share items with Outreach East whose area includes Goodrich.

• This program is designed to reach those in need of food, clothing and other services in the north east side of the county. Outreach East is located on St. John the Evangelist church property in Davison. It is open Monday thru Friday.

• Our members knit or crochet shawls which are then given to persons who are ill, suffered a loss or are in the midst of a life crisis. The group meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 10:00 am.

• Paper and plastic bags and plastic water bottles are collected and taken to Catholic Charities. Bins have been set up for plastic, metal and glass collection to be recycled with our waste management collection supplier. We also collect batteries, cell phones and eyeglasses that are then taken to their respective recycling centers.

• Volunteers collect and distribute school supplies including backpacks to those children in the Goodrich area in need of assistance.

• Volunteers from the Parish help prepare and serve the noon meal on the fifth Friday of each month at the North End Soup Kitchen in Flint, MI.

• Support groups for divorced, grieving, recovering alcoholics, and others are available at St. Mark and/or neighboring parishes. Times and places are printed in the weekly bulletin.
